Dynasty running back rankings
How the engine prices running backs — early peaks, steep decay, and why short careers are an age story, not a flat tax.

How the engine values RB
Running backs peak earliest. The model’s peak window sits around age 24, with the steepest convex decay afterward. That is deliberate: short careers are priced through age, not through a flat “RB tax” that would punish a twenty-one-year-old and a thirty-year-old the same way. Pre-peak backs still get a youth premium; past peak, value falls hard.
On the base 1QB scale, running backs sit level with receivers of equal evidence. Usage is normalized to a full workload for the position so a bellcow’s rush and snap shares are not compared raw against a receiver’s target share. Role labels such as bellcow and committee lead feed role security; win-now score trusts the literal depth chart, while rebuild score leans on youth and upside.
Opportunity matters when volume leaves a backfield — freed carries are a role-trend signal, not a full fantasy projection, and the tilt is kept modest. Contenders may still buy aging production; rebuilders are steered away from short-window backs in the trade finder. Format adjustments barely touch running backs directly; lineup depth can raise or concentrate RB value with the rest of the skill pool.
When you import a league, aging running backs show up as short-window assets in contender recommendations and as sell candidates in rebuild plans. That is the same age curve talking at roster scale — not a separate RB ranking product.
Peak window used in the age curve: about age 24. Full story: methodology and trade value basics. Values below are the live board — not re-ranked by hand.
